Ama Dablam summits!

(1st Dec)

[Hadley on the summit of Ama Dablam, 4 kb]On Saturday and today, (Monday) seven members of our team summited Ama Dablam, together with expedition leader, Caroline Ogden IFMGA and members of our Sherpa team. This is the 9th Jagged Globe expedition (of 10) where team members have summited.

On Saturday 29 November, Emma, Archie, Rich and Andy topped out. We've just had word from Caroline, that she summited this afternoon (1 December) with Barry, Bill and Corrinne. They will descend to base camp tomorrow.

Caroline is sending updates by text message, so we apologise for the brevity of our despatches. Hopefully tomorrow we'll have more details, once the second half of the team are back in BC and have time to talk to us at more length. Congratulations to the whole team! [read more about Ama Dablam]

Ecuador Volcanoes report

(1st Dec)

[Above the clouds on Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano in the world, 18 kb]John Owers has posted a report from our November Ecuador Volcanoes expedition:

"It would not be right to finish this report without highlighting the part played by our Ecuadorian guides Gaspar and Ramiro. Gaspar was with us throughout the 3 weeks, his local knowledge and his willingness to take us to places off the beaten track really made a difference.

Ramiro joined us for the 3 highest peaks and his friendly attitude added greatly to our enjoyment. A true test of a guide however is his skills in the mountains. Although they are both young men I always felt 100% confident in there skills and abilities. They had just the right balance between catering for an individuals needs and encouragement when the going got tough. A big thank you to them both and all the Jagged Globe staff who assisted in making this a very enjoyable trip."

Training for Ama Dablam

(27th Nov)

[Cneifion Arete, 6 kb]Here is a photo of Angus Ruddle earlier this week on Cneifion Arete (Grade: Moderate), Ogwen Valley, Snowdonia. Cneifion Arete is a steep, juggy pitch of moderate climbing and a tricky chimney leading to a grade three ridge scramble. This route is perfect training for something like Ama Dablam, which Angus will be attempting next year. Thanks to Instructor, Ed Chard for the photo. [read more about Scrambling Weekend]
